Market Update

The 2016 Silver Proof Coloured Peter Rabbit Fifty Pence coins are currently being offered on eBay at £250, £275 and £300!

The 2016 Uncirculated Peter Rabbit Fifty Pences are also being offered on eBay from £18.49.

Peter Rabbit

Peter Rabbit was first created in 1893, in a letter that Beatrix Potter sent to an ill child to cheer him up. She named the character after Peter Piper, a pet rabbit she had as a child.

Peter Rabbit has appeared in 23 stories - the best known being The Tale of Peter Rabbit, which has sold over 150 million copies worldwide!

Peter is known for sneaking into Mr McGregor's garden and stealing his vegetables.

Design

The reverse design shows Beatrix Potter's most famous character, Peter Rabbit. It was designed by the Royal Mint engraver, Emma Noble, who has designed the other coins in the series. The silver proof version of the coin is coloured, whereas the uncirculated coin is not.

The obverse shows the new portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, by Jody Clark.

Brilliant Uncirculated

This coin comes presented in a colourful folder.

Silver Proof

The silver proof version of the coin incorporates colour printing technology. The reverse design of Peter Rabbit is printed in colour.

The coin comes in a perspex presentation block, and is accompanied by a booklet telling the history of Peter Rabbit.

Mintage

The silver proof version has a 'limited presentation' of 15,000 coins. This does not mean that only 15,000 will be minted - it means the amount that will be presented in the Perspex block. Theoretically, the mint could produce millions more in a different presentation box.

We think the mint is likely to bring out a set featuring the four silver proof coins, later in the year.

Other Peter Rabbit Coins

We have stocked the 2003 Gibraltar Peter Rabbit One Kilo Silver Coins which were sold at the bargain price of £320.

We also have a 1993 Gibraltar 6-coin set of crowns in stock, waiting to be photographed. The set was issued to celebrate the centenary of Peter Rabbit.
