Constantine II
317-337 (Caesar) 337-340 (Augustus)

The eldest son of Constantine the Great by his second Wife Fausta. Constantine II became Caesar at the age of 7 and was a field commander at the age of 10. Following the death of his father in 337, Constantine II became co-Emperor along with his brothers Constantius II and Constans. Constans, the younger of the three brothers, was placed under the guardinaship of Constantine II, but as he came of age, Constantine refused to relinquish the Guardianship and insisted in remaining in control of the whole of the western portion of the Empire. This lead to a war between the two brothers, in which Constantine II was defeated and killed by Constans, whereupon the latter took over the west in its entirity.
