Equatorial Guinea
The Republic of Equatorial Guinea was discovered by Portuguese explorer Fernão do Po in 1471, and it remained in Portuguese control until 1778 when it was traded to Spain. The British maintained a base there from 1827 to 1843 to combat the slave trade. It was known as Spanish Guinea from 1926 to 1963, and achieved independence in 1968.

Obverse
