Portrait of Herennia Etruscilla on a Silver Antoninianus
Portrait of Herennia Etruscilla on a Silver Antoninianus
Two Hands Shaking
Pudicitia Seated Left
Herennia Etruscilla
AD 249 - 251
Little is known of the life of Herennia Etruscilla, except that she was descended from an old Roman family (Herennia), that she was the wife of Trajan Decius, and that she had two sons, Herennius Etruscus and Hostilian.
The coin we show is an antoninianus. The obverse shows Herennia facing right, with the legend HER ETRUSCILLA AUG.

Pudicitia
The reverse features a seated personification of Pudicitia, holding a sceptre. Although she is often portrayed veiled, here she appears to be holding, possibly plaiting the hair on her right side, that on her left side is already in a plait.
The reverse legend reads PUDICITIA AUG.
