Julia Soaemias
Julia Soaemias is principally known as the mother of Elagabalus. She was the daughter of Julia Maesa and Julius Avitus, a Syrian consul under Caracalla. As Elagabalus was chiefly pre-occupied with religious matters during his reign, Julia Soaemias was for the most part the de-facto ruler of Rome during this period. She shared the fate of her son, who was brutally murdered alongside her in 222 A.D. when the army and the Roman people hailed her nephew Alexander as Emperor in place of her son.
