Promoli & Hausburg Medallion
This brass medallion was clearly issued as an advertising piece. In Victorian times, it was quite common for businesses to issue advertising tokens or medallions. These were often inexpensive to produce, and would be a very durable alternative to a business card. They were also issued before Victoria's reign, commonly as early as about 1787, when private tokens started to be issued for small change, and at the time that Boulton & Watt made coin and medal production more efficient by the use of steam powered machinery.

It is interesting to learn the wide range of goods a single company used to make and sell, and also the strange mixture offered in the past. Medallions such as this provide an interesting and fascinating historical record of life in a previous time.
