Reverse of Hampshire Friendly Society Medallion
Napoleon Bonaparte Bronze Medallion
This medallion commemorates Napoleon Bonaparte's entry into Brandenberg on the 27th of October 1806, following his victory over the Prussians. The magnificent quadriga sculpture on top of the Brandenberg Gate, depicted on the reverse, was stolen by Napoleon and carted off back to Paris, were it was intended to be a centrepiece for the Church of the Madeleine, a grandiose 'Temple' intended to glorify the Imperial Army and its military conquests, but it was taken back by Prussian soldiers when they entered Paris in 1814, and restored to its original place.
