New Hebrides
New Hebrides was the name of a group of islands in the South Pacific Ocean, now known as Vanuatu. The New Hebrides were discovered in 1606 by the portuguese navigator, Pedro de Quiros.
The islands were colonized by the British and the French in the 18th century causing a divide. This split continued up until 1980, when the New Hebrides gained their independence as Vanuatu.
