ronhaz1 in eBay Copyright Theft
ronhaz1 of Canvey Island, Essex, United Kingdom, eBay cheat used our 2004 Proof Gold One Pound Coin Forth Railway Bridge Reverse Photograph without permission to sell his own 9 George V pennies in direct competition with us, and mislead any potential buyers by not mentioning the fact that his coins were probably worn as opposed to the near mint condition coin shown in our photo
Crook!
Nickel brass pound coins look different.

High eBay Feedback is No Guarantee of Integrity or Honesty

eBay Copyright Thieves
Many eBay vendors use our coin photographs to sell inferior quality coins on eBay. These eBay members are dishonest and should be avoided.
We believe eBay profits from IP rights infringements (copyright theft), and does so knowingly, only removing infringing items reluctantly, if at all.

What's Wrong?
We invest a great deal of time, effort, and cost into creating some of the best photographic coin images on the internet. We strongly object when lazy and dishonest people decide to use them without a by your leave or thanks, doing so in competition with us.
Copyright theft is dishonest. We recommend you avoid doing business with dishonest dealers.
This particular eBay seller not only stole our high quality copyright photograph of a gold proof £1 coin, but failed to inform potential buyers that the set in the photograph was not the one he owns, or that they will be bidding on. This is deception.
Sadly, it is also typical of eBay!
The special finish on the gold proof makes it look far superior to that on the nickel brass ordinary circulation coins, so that anybody bidding on his item expecting to get the perfect coin in our photograph would be rightly disappointed, and feel cheated.
He also claims the 1988 pound coin is a piedfort, but there is not other evidence to support his statement. We think it highly likely that he is incorrect, but whether this is through ignorance or dishonesty, we do not know. The item specifics state the coin to be "used", and it would be extremely unlikely to find a silver proof piedfort in circulation. His description is

1988 PIEDFORT ROYAL ARMS £1 COIN
IN GOOD CONDITION
He does not state that it is silver, but a bidder would expect the coin to look like the silver proof coin in our photograph, and piedforts of this issue are silver.
Not all 1988 silver proof pound coins are piedforts.

Price
He was asking a starting price of between £3.50 for one item and £1.50 for the other item, which is probably more than they are worth.

How Much?
The "Piedfort" sold for £10, which would be cheap, but we think it obvious that the coin involved was not a piedfort, but had been described wrongly by the rather stupid seller.

Pathetic Purchaser
When we saw that eBay had been slow removing the listing, so that the buyer had already paid for and received his item, and had posted feedback, we expected to read the negative feedback with interest.
We were astounded to see, that not only had the seller given positive, not negative, feedback, but had also publicly apologised for what was the vendor's error:

eBay Protects Fraudsters
Some years ago it would have been possible to contact the buyer and tell him that he had been duped by the seller's poor and misleading description. Since then eBay have changed their systems so it is now difficult to contact most buyers. This obviously helps crooks, conmen, fraudsters, scammers, and eBay (because they get to keep the selling fees).
While we do not accuse eBay of making this change with the deliberate intention of helping crooks, and making it easier for buyers to get ripped off, we are not the only people to have noticed. There are comments about this on various online forums.
Do eBay care? We suspect not!

Not Our Job, But... We Care It is not our job to act as unpaid policemen for eBay or its buyers, but we don't like to see people getting ripped of by crooks. Accordingly we sent the buyer a message, via an item he had recently sold:-

We note you bought item 280539189143 1988 PIEDFORT ROYAL ARMS £1 COIN, and left positive feedback, and an apology.
We believe the seller ronhaz1 mis-described the item and mislead you.

Do eBay Care?
To check them out, we also contacted eBay, by replying to their "VeRO Program -- eBay Listing Removed" e-mail:

Dear VeRO,
Thank you.
We note that one of your members has already left feedback for one of these two items
280539189143 1988 PIEDFORT ROYAL ARMS £1 COIN
for which he paid £10.
Apart from the copyright infringement, we believe the seller ronhaz1 has mis-described the item and mislead the buyer.
It is not our job to act as unpaid policemen for eBay or its buyers, but we don't like to see people getting ripped of by crooks, but...
We were astounded to see, that not only had the seller given positive, not negative, feedback, but had also publicly apologised for what was the vendor's error.
If eBay care about fraud, we would hope that you would contact the buyer and alert him to the fact that the listing description, including the inclusion of our photo of a silver coin, was misleading.
