Spanish 5 Peseta Silver Crown Coins of Alphonso XIII
Alfonso III started his regal career at an extremely early age, being proclaimed king at birth on 17th May 1886, his father Alfonso XII having died of tuberculosis on 25th November 1885.
This explains why his early coins show him as a baby, then as a young boy. He was only two years old when the first type of silver 5 peseta crown was issued.

Description - First Type
Obverse
Portrait of Alfonso as a baby facing left, with the legend (inscription):-
ALFONSO XIII POR LA G. DE DIOS
1888 (1989, 1890, 1891, or 1992)
There are two dates on each coin, the larger one being the year of authorisation, and the smaller date, the last two figures of which are shown incuse on the small star to the right of the larger date, is the date of striking. On all three types, both dates correspond with each other.
Reverse
Coat of arms of Spain, a quartered shield, surmounted by a large crown, flanked by two columns, with a scrolled ribbon bearing the motto:
PLUS ULTRA
The legend reads:
REY CONST DE ESPANA
5 PESETAS
The mintmaster's initials and the mintmark (M = Madrid) are to the left and right of the value.

Description - Second Type

ALFONSO XIII POR LA G. DE DIOS
