Medallic Stamp Replicas
A number of different postage stamp issues have been immortalised by medallic replicas, usually made in precious metals, gold and silver, being produced and issued, normally to commemorate an important anniversary.
Although philately is a very popular hobby, stamps are, by their nature, slightly fragile. Replicas in gold and silver should prove to be more durable, and have the additional advantage that they contain an intrinsic value.
Medallions
Replica stamps are simply a special class of medallion. Because they are three dimensional, it is easier to appreciate the artist's and engraver's skills. For those collectors who enjoy numismatic and medallic art, stamp replicas add an extra dimension. Medallions are also more tactile. Although we generally advise owners to handle their medallions carefully, the solid feel and weight of a piece of gold or silver can add to the pleasure of ownership.
Market Prices
As with may collectable items, the cost of production and marketing often makes these relatively expensive when issued new. For those shrewd collectors and investors, who are prepared to be patient, secondhand (previously owned) medallions of all kinds can be a favourably priced addition to a collection.

The secondary (secondhand) market prices for silver medallions is usually quite competitively priced, and for connoisseurs of medallic or numismatic art, previously owned medallion sets often represent a bargain especially compared with the original new prices.
