Tamworth Milled Halfpenny Token 'Church and Castle' 1799

Featured is a Halfpenny Token struck for use in Tamworth. The high quality of the engraving and striking, and the fact that only 72 were ever struck would suggest that this token was made especially for collectors, rather than for general circulation. Token collecting became a fashionable hobby in the 18th century, especially once James Conder had published his book on tokens. This token is extremely rare and may well be the finest speciment still in existance. Quite possibly a bargain at this price.
