USA have produced a range of platinum coins featuring the eagle, since 1997. The range of weights start at one tenth of an ounce, and go up to one ounce.
Platinum Eagle Proof Sets
At the same time as the USA started to issue platinum eagle bullion coins, it also issued platinum eagle proof sets. For the first year, the design of the proof versions was the same as that of the non-proof version, but in the following years, while the ordinary uncirculated bullion version designs have remained the same, there has been a new design each year for the proofs. This five year series of proof platinum eagles is called the "Vistas of Liberty" series. We give details below of the dates and designs.
Vistas of Liberty Series Designs:
Date | Design |
1998 | Eagle Over New England |
1999 | Eagle Above Southeastern Wetlands |
2000 | Eagle Above America's Heartland |
2001 | Eagle Above America's Southwest |
2002 | Eagle Fishing in America's Northwest |
2003 | Eagle |
2004 | Daniel Chester French's America Sculpture |

2002 Sets - Description
Concluding a series started in 1998, the United States Mint offers in 2002, the final Vistas of Liberty series of the American Eagle Platinum Proof Coins, the last of five Platinum Proof Eagle reverse designs depicting the beauty of regional landscapes from across the nation. The 2002 reverse design brings the American bald eagle to the northwestern United States, bearing the image of a lake bordered by magnificent snowcapped mountains and trees - a landscape typical of the region. A swooping eagle and leaping trout fill the foreground of the majestic panorama. Each Platinum Proof Coin contains 99.95% pure platinum and is available in a one ounce, one-half ounce, one-quarter ounce, or one-tenth ounce size. A four-coin set is also available. The obverse displays John Mercanti's striking engraving of the face of Lady Liberty, the nation's icon of freedom.
