Jamaica - $25 Discovered by Columbus in 1494, Jamaica has had a rich history. It adopted a decimal dollar currency in 1969. The coin pictured is a World Football Championships commemorative $25 silver proof.
Japan - Silver 1 Yen Japan was shut off from the western world from the 17th to the 19th century, but then rapidly industrialised. These magnificent silver one yen coins were issued from 1870 to 1914, and reflect Japan's growing importance as a trading nation. Ours is from the 21st year of Meiji (Matsuhito's) rule = 1888.
Jersey - Thirteenth of a Shilling In 1841, when Britain was moving towards decimalisation, Jersey started issuing its own coins, with "pennies" at thirteen to the shilling! This was because of the exchange rate of its previously used French currency.
