Yemen Arab Republic We must admit to being slightly confused about the history of Yemen. Krause's usually reliable World Coins lists four different states under Yemen, whereas the CIA website, also usually quite reliable states that North Yemen and South Yemen united in 1990, under the name of Republic of Yemen, AL Yaman, or Al Jumhuriyah al Yamaniyah to give its full name. Our coin, dated 1965, was issued by the king during the civil war which lasted from 1962 to 1970. Although few coins of moslem countries feature a person, this commemorates Sir Winston Churchill, and was struck at the Paris Mint.
Yugoslavia Yugoslavia was formed in 1918, from the union of Serbia, Montenegro and the South Slav territories of the Austro-Hungarian empire. It ceased to exist between 1991 and 1992 when the autonomous republics of Croatia, Slovenia, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Macedonia declared their independence.
