Two separate UK £5 crowns will be issued in 2005. One to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805, and one to commemorate the death of Admiral Horatio Nelson at the battle.
Photos will follow as and when available, the Royal Mint are notoriously slow and inefficient at releasing such information, and making it available in an appropriate format to dealers and distributors.
Gold Silver and Base Metal Versions
As from 1990, the five pound crowns have been produced in a number of different versions, and in three different metals. An ordinary uncirculated base metal version will be available from banks and post offices later in the year.
Proof versions of the above cupro-nickel coins are also available as part of the 2005 Proof Coin Sets.
The silver proof version and gold proof version are also expected. Although the Trafalgar coins will be released in January, anybody wanting the silver or gold proof Nelson coins will have to wait until October as the Royal Mint has decided to make us all wait until then...

We are holding our pre-release prices for a short period, they will be valid while still shown on this page.

British Platinum Piedfort Crowns
Starting in 2004, the Royal Mint has issued platinum piedfort proof crowns. These are naturally very expensive. We can usually supply them new to order if required, but we prefer to source lower priced ones from the secondary market. Please contact us if you are interested.
Platinum Bullion Coins
Platinum coins are subject to VAT in the UK, so we have not until recently offered new platinum bullion coins, however, we can now obtain and supply them to special order. If demand is sufficiently high, we will start to carry them in stock.
Brief Historical Notes
We have prepared a brief historical set of notes about Admiral Nelson and the Battle of Trafalgar
