King Canute

King Canute (also known as Cnut the Great) was coronated as the King of England in January 1017, at the Old St Paul’s Cathedral. Canute was a viking ruler and also the King of Denmark and Norway.

Design

The obverse of the coin shows the fifth definitive portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, by Jody Clark.

The reverse was designed by Lee R Jones, and depicts King Canute. The text reads "1017 King Canute 2017". The coin design was inspired by the original currency of King Canute.
