Obverse of 1776 Guinea
Reverse of 1776 Guinea
George III, Fourth Head
1776 is quite a sought after year for this type of coin. 1776 was the year that the 13 American colonies declared their independence from Britain, and with the exception of the silver maundy issues, gold guinea and half-guinea denominations where the only British coins struck that year.
This particular specimen is holed at the top, presumably so that it could be worn as part of a pendant. However, this is still a key date coin struck for an important year in world history.
