Techically a token rather than a coin, this 1813 Tenpence Irish piece was struck on behalf of the Bank of Ireland by Matthew Boulton, to help allieviate a coin shortage in Ireland similar to that which also existed in Great Britain at the same time. Tenpence was an oddball denomination that didn't exist in regal coin, and the reason for this was because to strike a token that corresponded to a regal coin denomination would have been a violation of the Royal Mint's monopoly.
