2003 Concorde's Last Flight Silver Medallion

A 2oz silver medallion commemorating Concorde's last flight, 24th October 2003 with a box and certificate produced by Westminster.
A limited edition of 500 medallions were produced.

Concorde was the result of an Anglo-French project to produce a supersonic passenger airliner. In 1969 it made its maiden flight, and began commercial service in 1976. Although Concorde was a stunning technical achievement (even the USSR and USA had tried and failed to build a supersonic passenger airliner) Concorde was a limited commercial success. Although it eventually managed to run operationally at a profit, its development costs were well in excess of a billion pounds, and the whole project up until the retirement of the last concorde in 2003 was probably a commercial net loss.
Nevertheless, Concorde gained great affection amongst the British people for giving a demonstration that, in spite of the diminishing place of Britain in the world, Britain was still capable of producing (with French help!!) great things.
