Featured is a Tetradrachm of Eucratides I of the Hellenistic Kingdom of Greco-Bactria. The Greco-Bactrian Kingdom was one of the Successor states descended from Alexander the Great's Empire, carved out of the territories of the Selucids in around 250 B.C. Unfortunately, evidence about the Greco-Bactrian Kingdom and its Kings is often quite scarce, and the numismatic evidence they left is one of the most important sources of information about them. Some of the Greco-Bactrian Kings would have been completely lost to history if not for the coins they left behind featuring their names.
Eucratides however, was one of the more important kings of Greco-Bactria, who overthrew the Euthydemid dynasty and led a period of expansion at the expense of his neighours (especially the Indo-Greek Kings) before finally being defeated by them and later murdered by his own son. Thereafter, the Kingdom went into decline and was finally overrun and destroyed by the Indo-Sythians in 125 B.C.
