Ancient Greek Tetradrachm |

| |
Featured is a tetradrachm of the Ptolemaic Dynasty of Egypt. The lack of a date or other identifying features makes this coin difficult to identify the date or the reign in which it was struck precisely, but the style indicates that it was probably struck during the reign of Ptolemy V or VI, which would date this coin to around the early 2nd Century B.C. This was a time of conflict between Egypt and the Selucids, so perhaps the lack of a date is an indication of a need to strike coins in great volume without the usual care and attention in order to pay the huge expenses associated with a fighting major war.
