Notes
Our resident photographer has retouched the photographs, and removed a large flan flaw, probably caused by porosity in the metal during alloying. Fortunately this is in the field between the E of ET and William's head on the obverse, and on the scroll near the X E of REX ET, the flaw is visible on the reverse as can be seen in our images. There are also numerous small flan flecks, mainly on the lower left part of the reverse, with some corresponding marks on the obverse. This is a fairly common feature on the large gold coins of this period, and in our view does not seriously detract from the beauty of this piece, and almost enhancing it, certainly adding original and unique features to this coin.
