Angola is situated on the west coast of southern Africa, and is surrounded by Namibia, Zambia, Congo Democratic Republic and the South Atlantic Ocean.
Subsistence agriculture is a major form of employment in Angola, however Angola's oil and mineral deposits wil also play a part. Angola's main exports are iron and diamonds.

Angolan Coins
Portuguese colonial coinage was issued from 1693, with 50 Reis = 1 Macuta.
Revisions in Portuguese coinage later changed this to 100 Centavos = 20 Macutas = 1 Escudo.
After independence, there was a new coinage issued in 1976, and this was changed to a system with 100 Lwei = 1 Kwanza. There was another currency reform in 1999, using the same denominations.
