The Royal Geographical Society Silver Map by John Pinches

The framed silver map we feature on this page is by John Pinches of London, one of the best known of "modern" medallists, before they were taken over by Franklin Mint. It is to commemorate the 500th anniversary of the first publication of the famous Ptolemy map - the map of the world that ushered in the golden age of cartography.
The artist, Robin Jacques, is one of the world's outstanding cartographic artist. He has added the ships of the famous great explorers such as Columbus, Drake, Cook and Captin Scott. Also in the upper coners are protraits of Ptolemy, the first of the great cartographers and the second portrait is of Mercator, the eminent Dutch cartographer of the 16th century.
The map comes with it's original paperwork, but because it has been mounted and framed, we can not calculate an actual silver weight.
The map measures 20inches x 13inches, complete in it's dark brown wooden frame it measures 28inches x 20inches.
