In 2013, The Royal Mint issued a £5 crown to celebrate the Royal Christening of Prince George. Commemorative Crowns are issued almost every year, with a unique design for each. It is the first time in 120 years that the reigning monarch has welcomed a great-grandchild who is destined to suceed the throne.

The Christening

The event was attended by four generations of the Royal Family. Prince George wore a replica of the christening gown worn by more than 60 members of the Royal Family since 1841.

The service lasted 45 minutes and was conducted by the Archbishop of Canterbury. The Lily Font was used during the ceremony. It is traditionally housed in the Tower of London and is only used for special occassions, including the Christening of Prince George's father, Prince William.

Obverse

The obverse reverts back to the fourth portrait of the Queen designed by Ian Rank-Broadley, and introduced in 1998.
ELIZABETH II D G REG F D

Reverse

The reverse features the Lily Font, in which Prince George was christened, with lilies and cherubs and the text:
"To celebrate the Christening of PRINCE GEORGE of CAMBRIDGE 2013"
DIEU ET MON DROIT
