A leaning ship, presumably becoming wrecked on the reef at East End. Above is the inscription 200th ANNIVERSARY OF THE WRECK OF THE TEN SAILS 1794-1994
Wreck of the Ten Sails
Legend has it that in 1794 a convoy of merchant ships travelling from Jamaica to Britain got into trouble at East End. 'Cordelia' apparently ran aground on the reef and sent a siganl to the other ships to warn them of the dangers of the reef. However, that signal was misinterpreted and nine more ships sailed into the dangerous coral. The people of the East End acted fast and all the lives were saved.
