Design
An octagonal coin. The reverse has a coin-within-a-coin effect, having a circular centre with a rendition of a medieval style coin.

Obverse
The coat of arms of Armenia, with the date 2000, and a legend (inscription) in Latvian, which we cannot translate.

Reverse
According to the information card:
The new millennium is being celebrated all over the world as the symbolic anniversary of the birth of Christianity. Armenia, as one of the first nations to embrace Christianity as its state religion has commemorated this historic passage of time by featuring on a special 2000 dram coin a stylised interpretation of St George and the dragon, allegorically epitomising the triumph of good over evil. Variations of the legend of St George and the dragon abound, but it is generally believed that George, a contemporary of the Roman emperor Diocletian (284 - 305) and of noble birth, became a high ranking military officer in the Roman garrison stationed in the ancient town of Sylene in Libya, (the card actually says Lybia!) a town terrorised by a ferocious dragon. When George slew the dragon the townspeople embraced his faith. His reputation as a valiant defender of Christianity was thus assured and his heroic feat of courage is retold on the reverse of Armenia's millennium coin.
