Design
Bimetallic coins are a fairly recent innovation, and titanium was first used in coins in 1996. The combination of titanium centre and silver outer ring makes this quite an unusual coin.
The overall theme of the coin reiterates the remarkable advances in science and technology that has been made during the last century of the second millennium. Man has landed on the moon and pictures have been sent back from the planets. Communication technology has brought information to everyone.

Obverse
The central image of the obverse is a impression of a microchip, the key to future communications, designed by Andreas Zanaschka.

Reverse
The purely symbolic reverse gives an illuminating picture of the world surrounded by a compilation of technological instruments and electronic devices that have made our planet into a global village (even if some of the neighbours do give a little aggro from time to time).
According to the information card, it is through these tremendous advances and achievements that Austria looks to the future and the new millennium.
