Big Ben
‘Nations touch at their summits’
The clock face of the Palace of Westminster on this coin symbolises democracy and the key role Britain has played through its Parliment in bringing democracy to the world. The quotation from the writer Walter Bagehot, 'Nations touch at thier summits', is a way of referring to the Olympic Games as the pinnacle of sporting achievement as well as to Westminster as the symbol of a nation.

Did you Know?

Big Ben is the nickname for the great bell of the clock at the north-eastern end of the Palace of Westminster in London. Big Ben is the largest four faced chiming clock and the third tallest free standing clock tower in the world.
